Day 5

The next morning we ate breakfast at the Orchid Cafe. It was so amazing that we ate there again for dinner! After breakfast we headed to the hotel to wait for a bus to take us to the Cloud Forest Reserve.

I went out to the hammocks to eat some fruit and relax and heard some rustling in the trees. Monkeys! I waved the banana and they came running over. What a joy to feed them. It was a highlight for us. They came right up and took it from our hands. Cute little old man faces and little hands. Fun!

After our monkey excitement we headed to the Santa Elena Reserve. At $14 a person we were hoping to see more monkeys and a sloth.. We did not see more then a snake and ants! At the end of our trail we stepped onto an ant hill and they got all over our shoes, mostly Jeff's and they began biting his legs. Ah!

More Jurassic Park scenery. This hike was peaceful (before the ants) and we might have enjoyed it more if we did Monteverde before Arenal. We feel like we could have skipped this. It may have been better with a guide because we did not see any animals..other then a snake and ants.

We headed back to our hotel and ate at the Orchid Cafe, again for dinner..
They gave us free vegan muffins too!

After dinner we were picked up for our Don Juan CoffeeN'Jungle night tour. This was a combo tour in hopes to still see a sloth, with a guide and at night.

The tour started off with a coffee lesson. Our guide was Marcella. She was great! It was fun and she kept it interesting. We got to taste some coffee and chocolate too (dark chocolate for us)

After the coffee portion we went looking for some wildlife. We saw a lot of frogs, a huge grasshopper, something from the possum family, a Kinkajou, a tarantula,

And TWO SLOTHS! The second one was super close. But still hard to get a picture of.

We felt satisfied. We headed back to our room and then had some wine in front of the fireplace in the common area of the hostel. Time for bed ZzZzz
